A libertarian view. If dispensing prescription drugs were a free market (say, morning-after pills were over-the -counter), this would not be an issue.

However, pharmacists take advantage of a government-granted monopoly. That is, if you are not a licensed pharmacist, men with guns will come and put you in jail for dispensing prescription agents. They might even shoot you, if you don't come along quietly.

In return for this priviledge, it seems reasonable to ask that pharmacists be legally-obligated to dispense as the doctor ordered.
