Actually wolf, I know many people who don't seem to grasp the gravity of war, and certainly don't speak about it as a last resort. One conservative friend describes the Iraq War as 'no big deal' because there have been fewer casualties than WWII. The Vietnam veteran in my family thinks we should bomb anyone we don't like. I guess 'necessity' is a somewhat subjective concept when it comes to war, but surely you're not trying to tell me that every pro-war person in the country thinks war is only ok as a last resort. There is no way you believe that. To ignore those who are mindlessly pro-war out of some kind of bloodthirsty patriotism or ignorance about the rest of the world, just because it helps your argument, is also childish. I think some people simply see war as the natural state of the world. I don't happen to be one of them.
McCain understands war, to be sure. But to classlessly joke about war with Iran on a regular basis leads me to believe he doesn't consider that idea to be a last resort at all. Not to mention, I don't think he grasps the idea that our economy cannot afford yet another war. And I find that extremely alarming.
