I would not want a repressed gay republican babysitting my children any more than I would trust a repressed gay priest. But then again, I would not want an atheist socialist liberal deciding which moral/ethical issues are good for society.

I support religion as providing societal incentives for self-restraint, rather than ceding my liberty to a government than enforces multiculturalism (AA), abortion until the day of birth, restricts my ability to smoke, and whatever the Soviet élites wish to apply on us for our own good.
