Excuse me, Chris, but you are badly disinformed

1. It is simply not true: from its very beginning in 1992 Russia expressed strongest possible interest in Ossetian and Abkhazian micronationalism up to sending arms and volunteers to fight on Ossetian and Abkhazian sides in the Georgian civil war of 1992.

2. This is simply not true either. Kosovo was a "Socialist Autonomous Province within the Socialist Republic of Serbia".

3. I was not able to decipher this part.

4. Kosovo will be part of Greater Albania pretty soon, let us not pretend that we do not understand or do not anticipate this development. And I doubt that there is anything wrong with it either.

5. What is a point of expressing pride in idiotic policy which simply postponed the inevitable and that already took way more lives than a civilized negotiated partition under Western supervision, that was quite possible in the circumstances?

6. Why it is a news that Russian is not yet a civilized country?

It seems unfair to limit this post to criticism only, so here is my take on the events. On both sides here there are both rational and pure hysterical motives.

A. Georgia wants to be a Western country and it wants NATO membership in order to be truly independent from Russia (that is pretty rational), at the same time Georgia is simply hysterical with regard to unavoidable separation of Abkhazia and S.Ossetia.

B. Russia is simply hysterical with regard to Georgian plans to join Western civilization, at the same time it is rationally opportunistic (*) in using inability of Georgians to live in peace with minorities (and even with themselves) to increase its access to the Black See shoreline by a factor of 2 and it also seems pretty reasonable for Russia to seek prevention of large scale humanitarian disaster near its borders.

So, it seems that the order of the day is to quell hysteria by forcing resolution of real issues at the negotiation table. It seems to me that if a substantial part Abkhazia will go to Russia it may agree to resettle all S.Ossetians within its borders.

(*) IMHO, the best option for Russia is to leave the Caucasus (including Ingushetia, Chechnya, Dagetan, ...) altogether and let them all fight until they all kill each other. But I do not think that Russian people are capable to figure it out.
