RangerDan:Since a fetus is incapable of making decisions, why don't we ask how many people living in poverty would prefer that they had never been born?
Why qualify this with "living in poverty?" Why not just ask "how many people would prefer that they had never been born?" Might be a useful form of population control! Think of it this way:
1) The world human population is quite high, perhaps even excessive, if we're talking about how best to support a happy, healthy planet.
2) There are quite a few people out there, who can think for themselves, who wish to kill themselves.
3) We spend time and $$$ for programs aimed at getting people to not kill themselves. But really, that's pretty selfish -- maybe they really would be happier not being alive?
4) Off yourself, consciously and in an environmentally considerate way (e.g. please don't use a shotgun in the mouth in the bedroom, it leaves something of a mess), and we, as a society, will support you! You're doing a good thing for us -- helping keep the population down -- and a good thing for yourself -- making yourself happier, ending strife, going on to re-incarnation, whatever works for you, and this way everybody is happy!
5) I started out being satirical, but the more I think about this, really, the more sense it makes. Really, what's not to like?
