I only looked at the consolidated statement. I said that perhaps royalties was classified as a tax. I do not know if that is the case. But in the US they pay royalties to both state and federal govt. Call it what you want it is money that goes to the government.

A capital expenditure is not an expense item with the exception of depreciation of that item.

R&D is expensed and is not an investment.
