Those BORING conventions....

Why do we need coverage of these tedious conventions where
candidates talk about who they are and what their plans for the future
are? It's not like I could use the information in any way, say to cast
my vote later on this year.
Frankly, I'm sick to death of
reporters whining about covering elections, about how long the
primaries go on, how the candidates rarely say anything interesting,
etc., etc., ad nauseum. We just finished one of the most exciting
primaries we've had in decades, and this election is gearing up to be a
very important one offering real differences between the two major
candidates, with possibly two third-party candidates running campaigns
that could act as spoilers come November. If, as a reporter, you can't
find anything interesting to write about, GET ANOTHER FLIPPIN' JOB!
This
is a democracy; elections are important; the press has a vital role to
fulfill in helping the rest of us, who aren't able to dedicate our
entire working day to the upcoming elections, decide who should lead
our country. As journalists, you may get tired of the tedium of
day-to-day coverage, but take a moment and start asking regular folks
on the street what they know about the candidates and their positions.
If you find that even half of those people can accurately explain the
energy policy of either Obama or McCain, I'd be stunned.
You
still have a lot to do before November. You could start by taking your
whining a@# to the conventions and looking for something interesting to
report on. I promise, it will be all around you.
