my thought exactly. How is a bicycle safer than a scooter? I'm scared to bicycle to work given how much drivers tend to ignore them (and as a driver I hate driving with bicyclers on the road; whose bright idea was it to make a 10-15mph bicycle drive on the same road with vehicles moving 35-40mph? It makes me nervous every time i see one).

And in my area scooters (even 60cc scooters, although I would never drive one) are perfectly legal.
