I agree with the concept of "autonomy"; that's what's really at stake for women.

I'd like to make the controversial observation that five of the Supreme Court Justices--Kennedy, Scalia, Thomas, Roberts, and Alito--are Catholic. Catholicism forbids abortion. Should we consider limiting the number of members of a given religion that can be appointed to the Supreme Court?

Many Americans feared that JFK would take his marching orders from Rome. He swore he would not. But are these Justices following papal precepts when they write the way Kennedy does in the decision you quoted?

The religious notion that "every life is precious [to God]" is at odds with the way nature actually operates. Natural imperatives allow every species to procreate young and indiscriminately.

We live in a world of "unwanted," orphaned children and unadopted cats and dogs, most of whom will live short, unhappy lives. (I've recently adopted two pets and seen the unhappy spectacle of animals begging to be released from their cages.)

It is nature, not God, that loves procreation regardless of the consequences. Civilization quite rightly tries to control procreation for the good of individuals.
