"Firstly, Georgia is not the free democratic regime that people seem to think it is. Last year Saakashvilli (sp?) threw political opponents in jail, where they remain, and ordered troops to open fire on political protesters. Georgia is a client state of the US which has funded and trained its army and was pushing for it to enter NATO (thwarted by the Europeans), all basically to carry on the dangerous game of winding up the Russians which the neo-Cons have been pursuing these past few years."

Thanks for this. I do believe it's possible to learn more on slate than elsewhere some of the time.
