Because they have the worst case of cognitive dissonance ever; they live in a dream land where foreign policy and diplomacy don’t matter, and the U.S. will always have influence because, hey, we’re the U.S. gosh darn it. Even as incompetence upon incompetence is revealed, they cling more tightly to their “lefty” and “liberal” labels, believing that they can divide the U.S. in two, and thereby include themselves with the “right” and “conservative” groups. The fact that moderates, and even real conservatives, are fleeing the neocon nightmare has not, and never will, occur to them.
