I guess what I mean is:

If you can't check a definition against the thing being defined, you're free to define it anyway you want to.

Therefore, its definition is arbitrary.

Arbitrary definitions are, quite literally, nonsensical.

When confronted by nonsense, the rational response is to point out that it's nonsense.

Belief or non-belief is not required.
