The conservative Charlotte, NC media market (WCNC and The Charlotte Observer, with McClatchy Corp. reprinting reports up the road in the Raleigh News and Observer) has done everything it can to sling mud at pretty boy, liberal elite John Edwards. Why? Because he has done a good job of exposing the hypocracy of the Republican party, selling out their constituents to the highest dollar -- oil companies and corporations that sent manufacturing jobs overseas.

And because the GOP can't get anything to stick on Obama (closet Muslim, Rev. Wright, Flag Pins, etc.), Hillary is one of them, so they go after the next highest profile Dem, Edwards.

What are the Republicans afraid of? Someone who gives voice to 70%+ who aren't better off than they were 7.5 years ago. His desire to turn the national spotlight to issues like poverty has led to smear stories about haircuts, mansions, and now babies fathered by a staff worker.

It is disgusting that these smoke and mirror tactics work, and even more so that they'll work better going forward because of the nation's rising inability to think for themselves.
