I green-shirted my younger son
by seriousfun

His birthday is November 29, with a K cutoff of December 1.

We had him tested, and the (public) school system saw that academically, he was as-ready as any child they had tested. HIs 2 1/2-year-older brother was highly-gifted, but with a middle-year birth date this wasn't an issue.

The younger boy has always been the youngest in his class, but even before K he had chosen to hang out with older kids. He had a few emotional issues in elementary school, but not typical separation or clingyness, and he grew out of these. Athletics hasn't been a concern of his.

We had a great opportunity to send him to a private high school with low teacher|student ratios, and this worked very well for him. He chose to double-up on his core classes, and graduated valedictorian of his (5-student!) class, and is studying Electrical Engineering at a well-respected California private university (with a lot of scholarship and loan-money help). He will turn 17 this November while at college.

We're glad the we didn't redshirt him.
