And what about the jobs fast food places provide?

Low wage jobs at fast food restaurants are sometimes the only jobs available in these neighborhoods. Whoever replaces these chains should have to demonstrate that they'll give jobs to people in the community. A few years ago, there were problems in poor NY neighborhoods with Korean grocery stores. They may have sold better quality food than the usual convenience store, but they didn't provide jobs.

What a previous poster said about a five-year tax moratorium on non-fast food businesses is a good idea--but there also needs to be a commitment to hire neighborhood residents.
