Re: Visiting Grandma
by wanderer439

Yes, I've been this teenager, too, and I visited my Grandmother just about every weekend. Sometimes, I would leave my mother and grandmother to their visit and meet other people in the nursing home. It was an enriching experience for me, and hopefully for the residents I met as well. My new friends shared some of their younger-days' memories with me and I found them fascinating. I only wish I'd had the foresight to write them down.

Recently my daughter told me how uncomfortable she felt visiting my aging aunt, who has had a stroke. While walking through the nursing home, another woman suffering from dementia called my daughter over to give her hug, and I told her, "Okay, I know that probably made you uncomfortable, but you just made that woman's day."

Life isn't about our own comfort sometimes. Get over yourself and go make an old lady's day!!
