There are indeed large hunks of America where black people are quite rare. Upper New England, the Rocky Mountain and Plains states, etc.

There are also large sections of the country where blacks and whites both live, but utterly segregated: e.g., large swaths of suburbia.

Not surprisingly, white people tend to minimize the continued existence of racism while black people probably exaggerate it. It does certainly still exist, however.

I think many people who complain that Barack is Muslim are doing so simply because it's a more acceptable way to express their sense of discomfort with him. After all, it's absurd on its face and very easy to disprove, so that meme's s continued currency probably indicates a certain psychological utility it has for people.
