Some of us who lived through every other night call are not yet in our 50s! And we were more than glad not to be in the era of living in hospital housing (hence the name housestaff) so that we could not be called upon to work even in those precious few hours meant for study and sleep. I've noticed that the older docs are working longer hours than ever and I often wonder if the people training now are living backwards with those endless days coming at them instead of in the rearview mirror.
