From 1931 - after the suicide of Elie Raubel - his niece and lover, he claims that the smell of meat reminded him of Elie's rotting corpse and he could not stomach it. It is well-documented that Hitler was a vegetarian and the Third Reich even trumpeted his vegetarianism in its propaganda.

Vegetarian and Vegan groups are frenetically creating mountains of poorly researched claims trying to deny that he was a vegetarian as it touches a nerve in them - especially when they are trying to position their dietary choices as somehow being 'more ethical' than those of other mere omnivores.

This does not stop those same groups from promoting Albert Einstein as a vegetarian, even though he practiced it for the final year of his life. He made his best work when he was eating a healthy, normal diet.
