Actually, as I recall, it was the criminally liberal National Enquirer that ran stories suggesting that W was drinking again and it was imperiling his marriage. But what's really laughable is the idea that the MSM is liberal. The New York Times helped to lead us to war, in part by publishing nonsense fed to Judith Miller by the very illiberal people in the White House.
