People are the problem, not the ER
by epbmhr
The problem with ER's these days is not the boarders, but the people who come unnecessarily. Does your 4 year-old with a rash really have to be seen at 2 o'clock in the morning?? You have a sore throat...So what? You're constipated, or want a pregnancy test. These are all things that could be taken care of by meds/tests readily available at your local pharmacy or at the dollar store. Yes, our dollar stores sell pregnancy tests identical to the ones used in the ER. Welfare (read: free healthcare for the lazy) has caused our ERs to become "convenience rooms" not emergency rooms. These people come in and get care for free, yet they have their nails done and are wearing $110.00 sneakers. Give me a break! If the laws changed, and we could tell people that the ER isn't the place to get an STD check at 3 in the morning, there would be more room for the people who really need us!!!!!!!!
