MK baiting subject line aside, I'm not actually sure how much I agree with what I'm about to post. It was my first instinct, but then I started to rethink it... Fuck it, we'll do it live:

Quite simply, voters are "too simple-minded to weigh charges that are not proven." Maybe not all voters, but enough to impact the outcome of elections. Even if it's true, it should be kept from people. It might seem relevant to some voters, but those voters are wrong: personal flaws have nothing on policy flaws.

Since voters can only choose based on whatever information is available to them, the press ought to do their part for the democratic process by not giving voters the option of basing their decision on some bullshit.
