Bottom Line
by BonnieA
A woman died. Was it due to neglect, greed, ignorance, lack of staff or compassion, or greed as some articles state??? If you view the video, you will clearly see the number of people that stood there and did nothing to help her. And for those who are stating that the article is wrong, crap, BS, etc., you're entitled to your opinion; however, the facts are in plain view. As for the commission report that someone so graciously linked, (issue 26, published in 2002)...results indicated that over "one-half" of all reported cases of patient "death" and injury due to delays in treatment were related to the ER. The other cases came from at least "5" different units within hospitals. People can shun away all they want and throw tidbits of information claiming that the author has no idea what he's writing about, that this doesn't occur often, that people on medicaid (and mind you, one person/incident does not represent the majority) are wasting valuable hospital personnel's time, etc. but the bottom line is in my first sentence. This should not happen to anyone regardless of anyone's socioeconomic status. Think about it. This poor women could've been your mother, wife, daughter or you.
