Thanks for talking about John Edwards
by mabs44

I've been disturbed by the lack of discussion about this on some of the websites, like Salon, where on Broadsheet this SHOULD be the perfect discussion. Is it right to talk about this? I don't know...but I find I'm fascinated and appalled. As a liberal woman, who admires Elizabeth Edwards, I'm appalled that her husband did this. He seems to be joining the dubious club to which John McCain (dumped his first wife when he came home from being a POW to discover that the poor woman, who had been a statuesque swimsuit model, was physically altered by a serious car accident, and traded her in for the current much younger, much richer model) and Newt Gingrich (yuck -- dumped his wife while she battled cervical cancer? or uterine? or breast? can't remember... after having an affair with an intern...then went on to browbeat Clinton)...Yes, this story is still unproven. But it seems AWFULLY real. And he's not coming out to categorically deny it. What is the deal with male politicians (we're not far from the Elliot Spitzer situation, nevermind Bill Clinton) -- and how they treat the incredible women who support them in their lean years? Isn't this something we should be talking about ? should it matter to us if they're terrible jerks in their personal lives? Or not? I don't know for sure...maybe it's situational...but I DO know that we should be talking about it. It's true the John E is no longer running for Prez, but he was clearly angling for something important in the potentially new Obama admin, some sort of high level role, even VP. Does he deserve it, if this story is true? I think it's worthy of discussion, and I'm appalled that the MSM and some of the other "liberal" websites apparently feel they're above the discussion. Thanks to Slate for sullying your hands!!
