Erica S. Perl, did a stack of comics fall on you as a small child? Why the arrogance in this article? Comics, as have been alluded to many times by other posters, have started many great readers. They have built a multitude of stupendous vocabularies. Yes, I am trying to show mine off.

Getting down to brass tacks, the attitude presented in this article is why it is so hard for many boys to enjoy reading. Why? Because what they like to read is commonly referred to as drivel, dreck, low-brow, and *gasp* just plain entertainment. But, hey, guess what? That is just fine as a start. It’s not like people start out by running a marathon. They start by wobbling around a lot, and yes falling down. Hopefully, they fall in a safe place, like with big oversized stuff animals, fluffy couches, and stuff like that. Wait a minute; aren't the characters drawn in a big oversized manner?
