Re: My advice to McCain
by oldfarte

Excellent summation. Excellent advice.

Obama has three major weak points: Lack of experience, poor ability to extemporize answers (hence the increasing appearance of flip-flopping as he continually has to "explain" his answers), and his policies. McCain needs to concentrate his "attacks" on those.

Anytime "old" comes up, convert it to "experienced" (remember Reagan's retort to Mondale about age?).

Force him to debate or to otherwise forego set-piece speeches, then hammer the subsequent "clarifications" (really, Senator, WHAT exactly ARE you advocating for Jerusalem? He had an answer for the Israelis, another for the Palestinians, and a subsequent clarification which amounted to "umm, not sure").

Policy is easy. Iraq? Opposed the very surge which will allow the "draw-down" he now proposes. Energy? He has no proposal except windfall profit taxes - you can't run your car on windfall profit taxes and they sure don't encourage production. Iran? Is it a "grave threat" or a negotiating partner? Economy? Stripped of rhetoric, it's simply "more taxes". No incentives. No industrial program. And his numbers for his proposals, when you can discern them, don't add up. Health care? Even Hillary wasn't impressed.

Then go out and look heroic and presidential (an easy task if McCain can avoid the smirk).

OH, and drop the "my friends" crap. Too easy to parody.
