I think you're trying to have it both ways
by Kazillions

I don't know, but I'm guessing you guys might not have been fans of SDI (Star Wars) under Reagan. If I'm wrong about that, my apologies.

But in general I remember many lectures over the years about how awful was our nuclear arms build up, and what a terrible idea MAD was. In spite of that working, the globe has gone through some disarmament frenzies, which is understandable -- because after all nobody really wants to see another nuke detonated in a populated area -- and I even heard Obama the other day talk about the elimination of all nukes, right after he multiplies the fish.

But it seems what you are saying is that the US is being too strong of an ally to Israel?!?! Is that a fair characterization of your position?

Most people, including leaders in the U.S. and Israel, think of using nuclear weapons as a non-option, or the very last possible option. If Iran masses its army for an attack on Israel I think Israel would mass its own rather than leap to launching a nuke. If other Arab nations join in even Israel's technological superiority in conventional weapons may not be enough. The way to deter this is not the threat of 200 nukes, but the backup of U.S. conventional military might.

Furthermore, Israel has never announced a religious and governmental policy of "exterminating" anyone anywhere. And yet you guys are saying it's silly to compare Israel to innocent parties, and Iran to the gestapo???

It's been amazing to me for a long time how many Jewish people in America vote for Democrats. I wonder if that's an inconvenient statistic for the anti-semites in Europe to grasp.
