I have to say that even as a limited resource, I have uissues with telling anybody, "Well, you've lived long enough, so if you can't afford the surgery on your own, eff you."
This is almost the obverse of the abortion issue. If you are going to respect live at the beginning of the process, you should respect it enough to continue to help people at the far end. If a surgery will help a 90 year old person live another healthy 12 years, why should we deny it? If a surgery will help a teen ager with a cripling disease live another 3 years, should we deny it?
I guess I don't understand the benefit of not seeing the elderly as a vital part of society.
