We have a choice whether to dismantle some bases we have established in what still may be very key territories. We've witnessed how quickly old hostilities rise up and get organized in central Europe, and there may still be no more dangerous region in the entire world for such flare ups to happen.
As I implied in my earlier posts, I think it is a valid question to ask ourselves: what are the potential consequences of removing these power centers. I have heard many modern military men say that there remains no substitute for ground forces and refueling bases. Certainly we have taken air power to a new level, but as a human being who tries filter what he hears from various sources with his own meager common sense, I can understand how the presence of a U.S. base in a region might deter certain factions from organizing and getting their hands on some extremely dangerous weapons. Dangerous specifically to us.
