Re: Saudi textbooks and schools
by PollyEsther

I agree with SherryKay: We lived in Saudi for six years. I was not as well informed about the local schools as SherryKay, but some American families who were Moslem talked about their problems. Their children were required to go to Moslem schools only. The entire curriculum was focused on the Koran. Even math class used the Koran for their instruction. 'If a man was on the way to Mecca and had four camels and it was 100 miles.........." We lived there more than 20 years ago. Maybe the private schools have sprung up since then.

My problem with the instructions in Saudi schools to hate the unbelievers, is that even the children whose parents teach them the truth when they come home, they have still had all this hate inculcated within them. Some day when they are angry at a Christian or Jew, all this hate will come out. Of course, they really really hate the Jews.

My husband's company has conducted business in the middle east for many years and also has many ME employees here in the states. So, we have many friends who are Moslems, and they are very moderate people and I would hate to have anyone unmustly attack them in any way, The problem we have with terrorists is hard to figure out an easy solution to, however, we must be able to wiretap suspicious people who might be calling terrorists. Most of the arrests in Europe of terrorist plots have come as a result of wiretaps of the terrorist's phones. I hope that all of our ME friends here in the US are careful which relatives they call back home. Nothing is fair to everyone in the equation. And, government workers aren't always fair and honest in their handling of situations.
