This might work for you: At my credit union I can create a "savings" account with unlimited deposits and withdrawals. It's separate from my other accounts. Give PayPal access to that account only, and put only a limited amount of money in it.

Or, if you live paycheck to paycheck, it hardly matters if they have access to your main checking account. They can only get so much at one grab, because the account runs down to near zero regularly. And If they make a grab you don't like one time, order your bank to terminate PayPal's access to your account so they don't make any more.
