A third of women require a C-section (major surgery). For some number close to zero pregnancy is it trivial (or even out patient). That sounds pretty dangerous to me and fully justifies a blanket statement.
If I were going to beat (or whatever) someone to the point where they needed this kind of hospital stay, they would be perfectly within their rights to stop me... even if they had to kill me.
That right there is where the "personhood" of a fetus becomes irrelevant. It's also the reason the Pro-Life movement has such a problem with the "health" exemption clause when written into laws. Everyone could use it.
