As for you question about fossil records, I'm reminded of a joke Dawkins told at the AAI conference last year:

Creationist: There is clearly a gap in the fossil record between these 2 species!

Paleontologist: A transitionary fossil was found between those 2 species several years ago.

Creationist: Aha! So now you have 2 gaps!
