One problem with anything electronic is that it needs to be programmed, which logically means that it becomes predictable. If the enemy can predict what a drone (or similar gadget) will respond to, they can create a camouflage that can fool it. Every technological innovation spawns a new technology in response.

The only defense units that can't be predicted, and are therefore impossible to "outmode," are human beings. Give 'em all the toys you want, but never take the decision out of human hands.
