I have thouroughly enjoyed this very informative discussion, and wish to thank fortunateson for his advocacy. Again Fritz, I feel I must have insulted someone and I can only hope they know there was never anything malicious intended.
I want to BE (small "c") catholic. It seems I may not be "allowed to"...? I don't think I should have to "join" a defined subset of humanity which would exclude any others just because they wouldn't "join". The concept itself is altruistic, committing to an attitude of universal consideration. I realize the scope of my consideration is nowhere near as large as many of you, but I still want to try to be catholic.
Catholicity is a worthy aspiration. I consider it a virtue. I think it may be preferable to many other philosophies which are selfish and limited (and I'm not talking about the RCC). Wide minded people who frequent these boards have the potential of being called catholic also. It depends on how open-minded they are.
