Someone accused me of being a DNC shill on another post, which I'm not, so I'm going to be generous and assume that these aren't RNC shills. What is evident is that this election is weeding out the fakers in both parties. I think we're seeing the biggest realignment in party affiliation since 1968.
One of the reasons I thought all the way back in 2004 that Obama would be the perfect candidate in 2008 is that it's estimated that a million of the same Illinois voters who voted him into the Senate also voted for Bush. Back then, the red/blue divide was still the big story, and it seemed important then to have a Democrat who could bridge that divide. (It should be news to no one that Obama is a centrist.) He can, but it's now obvious that Obama's Republicans are different than Clinton's Republicans. (The latter are usually referred to as "Reagan Democrats", which I've always felt was a misnomer.) I guess a lot of peopIe are going through political identity crises right now. (I say "I guess" because I can't really relate -- I'm comfortable in my skin as a perpetually disappointed liberal Democrat.)
