Like I said initially, the show is inaccurate in its lack of context, for all of the reasons stated above. Sure, there were guys like Captain America, but they were 1 in 100. But the burrito approach (a la Oliver Stone) of taking every crazy story you can dig up and rolling them all up into one neat little show leaves an inaccurate depiction of what are armed forces consist of. It crowds out all the tremendous, dedicated, professional people that are just doing their jobs, and instead focuses on the intemperate misbehaviors that war can generate, particularly in the minds of young, anxious soldiers who are facing the prospect of death and dismemberment every day. I hope the show will depict some of the horrors perpetrated by the other side as well, the kidnappings, the torture, the intimidations, the beheadings, the constant violation of geneva guidelines (use of hospitals, mosques, red crescent vehicles, etc.), but I seriously doubt it will.
Watch Jarhead instead.
