Ok, DB. I appreciate the distinction you make here. I disagree with you re: punishment, but we're entitled to disagree. :) The question of what purpose our prisons serve is one I've brought up before, and getting away from the point here anyway.

As for the alleged murderer in question, that he fled the scene of the crime tells us (and his prosecutors) something important.
