1. I'm not right wing, in fact I've never voted for a Republican in my life - primarily because of their political tactics and lying, manipulating corruption.
2. The press is not free, it costs money, and when they spew crap like this to turn a dime they abuse their access. Get it? You are transparently naive if you think journalists "just want to get the story straight." Dude, they just want to earn a buck and get their mug on TV to be famous. This is why you never see the human interest stories because the MSM edits them out. We are a sound-byte nation because that's what makes them a buck, they feel no compunction whatsoever to "get the facts out." Just look at the way politics is covered.
3. Your statements are just a manifestation of the typical grunts complaints about the "high command getting it wrong." The fog of war clouds much prior to a conflict, if a road isn't there, or a bridge gets dropped, it's not the high brass' fault.
If this show wanted to deal with real issues it could have. How about Rumsfeld pulling the Army's battleplan off the sheld and line-iteming units out so he could do it on the cheap? Result, we didn't have any Armored Cavalry Regiments protecting the rear echelons, so units like the 514th maintenance company rolled into Nasarihya with absolutely no combat support and were slaughtered. What about Rumsfeld's new "vision" of swarm theory? Result, combat units without a contiguous front such that irregular forces could attack supply lines with impunity. What about Rumsfeld's "lightening up" of our military units? Result, everybody became 11 Bravos (infantry) pulling patrols, and negating the specialized training which has always been a strength of the American mililtary. If they want to discuss the psychology of battlefield rationalizations then do it, what good is a judgment without reflection? The list goes on and on, but that doesn't matter when all you want to do is cherry pick the bad stories so you can write for a bunch of haters and roll them all up into a 90210 version of Marine Recon.
This show fails to capture the "experience" of the private's Iraq war, voicing his complaints ("OMG, how long do we have to sit in the place which is perfect for an ambush?" - see 'hollywoodization' of dialogue complaint above) and yet castigating the hand that fed him by making them all look like tools later on. That is so typical of the way journalists operate, they lie to you to get you to open up, then take everything out of context and make you look like a tool later on. Anyone with experience in dealing with journalists knows this.
The writers of Generation Kill are assholes, this reviewer is an asshole. If they want to learn how to write objectively observe Bill Kurtis, Mark Bowden (Blackhawk Down) or even Charlene Hunter-Gault.
BTW, I am X-Army, 13 Bravo - not that it matters.
