Sorry, no can do. This crap is being fed to millions of households across the country, and the constant stoking by the ax-grinding, uninformed media solidify the damage done by this distorted picture of American soldiers. I get 20 minutes stolen from work to respond on a message board. Will not slow down, will not back down.
What is YOUR point? That I'm right about the number of characters? That I'm right about racial make up of this 'unit'?
What about the fact that this whole show is completely out of context?
Did the soldiers you know lack emotion? No. They had wives, they had dreams and aspirations, like starting a barber shop, going to college, becoming a veterinarian.
What this program misses, and what this author doesn't get, is the "experience" of being in the military and being over there. The result is a picture of American soldiers that is completely out of context.
What about the hours and hours of nausea inducing training?
What about the incredible fatigue that comes from wearing all that crap in 110 degree weather?
What about the late night hours of pulling late night guard, wondering when you'll see your family next?
What about the guy who wants to see his family? What about the guy whose mother just died? What about the guy whose wife just had a baby? What about the guy who just wants a real fucking pepperoni pizza? The devout catholic? The virgin? The brainiac? The comedian? The team leader? And on and on and on
Instead, we get a picture of vain, proto-gay meatheads who lack any sense of morality or concept of their place in time or history, who lack any belief in what their mission is, and the ocasional raised eyebrow from the exasperated officer. Without a true picture of the diversity of human character sharing the bond of military service, without a true picture of what their day-to-day experience is, all of the crazy 'character' stories are completely out of context, and serve only to demonize American soldiers to serve the evil stereotypes of the iconoclastic journalists. You know the type, the ones looking for glory by getting to go to the field with the troops, the danger hounds, who get to float from unit to unit with no direction, no responsibilities, no accountability, floating in and out and around the machine at will, who can and will leave to see their homes whenever they want. The ones who jump at every opportunity to capture the gore, the indignity of demise, the indiscretion of youth under stress, all to serve their egos, to make a name and buc and a career for themselves at the expense of the anonymouus patriot who signed up to do his duty for country.
