Re: Farhad's Apple Agenda Continues ...

Maybe that's because Ubuntu sucks big time, and because they've stolen from Debian. I certainly wouldn't wnat to give them press. They've created a bastard child of a distribution that leverages the worst of Linux and the worst of Apple: An oversimplified user interface and a dumbed down, insecure Linux system. The guys at Novell may have sold out a bit, but at least they're advancing Linux technologies internally. Ubuntu hardly introduces anything new: They're purely a distro-factory. At least Apple is innovating.

Do you really think that the Slate demographic gets a kick out of dropping to the Terminal to configure 925Resolution so their widescreen laptop works properly? I don't mind at all, because I'm a big-time Unix geek, but you can bet two things:

  1. Slate readers aren't at all excited for Linux
  2. Nobody is excited for Windows
  3. Masochists are excited for BSD (well, that and Gentoo)

So, predictably, Slate will discuss the products that are most innovative and exciting. If you want Linux news, I suggest you head over to Linux Journal or the excellent TuxMachines newsblog. Even Distrowatch is great reading every Monday.
