This whole discussion assumes that voters care about issues. I wish it were so! People tend to hear the folks who shout the loudest and so far the buffoons crowing about lapel pins, jingoism and faith are going to drown out any specific concerns about public policy. We as a collective respond more to a candidate's packaging and his opponent's ability to generate fear than to any campaign platform.
