NFP Guy:
In any event, you recognize that it was a church council which established the canon. By what authority did a council have the ability to decide the canon, if not by Christ's promise that the gates of hell would not prevail against it?
This seems to be where DD's 'parameters' fall apart.
- It must reveal or expand something Divine.
- Be authored by an Apostle or the close companion of an Apostle.
- Must be authored by somebody who knew Jesus.
- It must be totally consistent with revealed Truth.
-
There may be a 5th parameter, but I have forgotten it.
These rules only work because he has grandfathered in the 'revealed truth' by which everything else is tested; there is no test for the 'revealed truth' in the first place. So this is the article of faith, the baseless authority he relies on. That the 'revealed truth' is in itself not totally consistent is a separate, if amusing conundrum (to me, anyway).
