Is it your position that illegal immigration is not a serious issue?
If this is your position then why not argue that. I believe that most
Americans believe that the issue is serious and potentially disastrous and that the lack of a coherent, legal policy to deal with it is a significant part of the problem. I don't always agree with most Americans, but on this I think they are right. How would you suggest we deal with the issue? Do you believe the current policy is adequate and that there is no pressing need to change or reform it? It is clear the current 'mechanisms' are inadequate. They simply don't work. We can continue with this absurd dance or we can decide to get honest and begin to address the issue. Like all contentious issues this one is not black and white. There are clearly benefits and there are clearly liabilities. We need to have an honest frank discussion of both sides of the issue and craft a policy that is in the interest of the nation as a whole. Denial, or the refusal to admit that this is a serious problem that can and should be legally addressed will only make the cure that much more painful when we eventually admit that we have to address it.
