Um, did I say 'unfair'? Nope. I don't give a darn about fair, and fairness is not the point of my criticism.
We are in a war for the life of the constitution of this country. If this election goes to the republicans, abortion rights are over. The illusion of judicial independence is over. Any hope this country has of regaining its stature as any kind of democracy is over. Under McCain, we will continue to bankroll a failed foreign policy of empire that we can't afford that prostitutes the values that make this country worth any patriotism at all. That, kemosabe, is what is on the table.
As such, facile self-congratulatory not all that funny satire that has a very good likelihood of fueling the fires of idiot gotcha journalism is IRRESPONSIBLE. Sure, they have a rigtht to do it. I defend that right. Yadda, yadda. But if New Yorkers (both the publication and the people) want to live in a country that fosters and honors the diversity and cosmopolitanism that they so evidently revel in, they should grow the hell up and stop supplying aid and comfort to the idiots who never fail to capitalize on our mistakes. We can't afford to be so stupid.
