Why bother?
by Wordman

Why should we fight in either Afghanistan or Iraq, when Bush has said--publically, on the record--that Bin Laden doesn't concern him anymore?

"Well, as I say, we haven't heard much from him. And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure. And, again, I don't know where he is. I -- I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him."---GW Bush, March 13, 2002.

We were only four months into our Afghanistan campaign and Bush had already given up on ever finding Bin Laden. And he did not just give up, but was at peace with the fact that he was giving up!

If the police knew the mastermind of a particularly savage murder was on the run, would they ever (even if they might have thought chances for capture were slim) announce to the world that they don't care to look for him anymore?
