In 2004, there were plenty of American voters dumb/gullible enough to swallow the crap served up by the "swift boat veterans." Like the author, I don't like that it now seems necessary for satire to be hidden away, lest some idiots don't get it and provide more grist for the rumor mill, but that seems to be the reality. Shafer needs to get off his high journalistic horse on this one, and accept that some things are more important than his right to be irreverent. Am I being a little paranoid? I sure could be - but I'd rather be on the safe side than see another Democrat's presidential bid be torpedoed by stupidity.
