Someone noted the world demand, something that is not discussed frequently with regards to this issue. The world demand is keeping gas prices high. India and China are countries with booming car cultures. Unlike in America where car culture is on the verge of becoming passé to a degree (I, like many suburban warriors, still have to drive to and from everywhere. I'd much rather bike, but I have no choice when everything is at least a mile away on busy roads; I'd like not to die going to buy a bottle of gatorade), Chinese and Indian people still view the car as a status symbol, primarily due to our poor example from the 50s. We're not going to be able to stop it; we can only wait and hope that they wise up and change their ways.
