run, I agree with everything you said. Unfortunately, another reigning delusion is that the citizenry has any say in what our priorities should be. Even if Obama is elected, the wars will go on and none of the 700 military bases we maintain in 130 foreign countries will be closed (the only pols who ever discussed this were Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich and look how far they got). If it comes down to paying for our worldwide military empire, or paying for the education, health and welfare of the American people, the money will go towards maintaining the empire.
