Re: you're what is wrong with America!!

Jsees:

I respectfully disagree. And here's why.

Even if everything you said was right, is this how we should treat a long-lost child we met for the first time and discover she was fat?

"Disgusting, pig. I pity you. Get out of Mommy/Daddy's face."

I applaud your personal commitment to your health and respect your strength. But I think the position you describe is one of the issues we Americans need to address.

No compassion. Just righteous indignation.

This is the same attitude that sends a non-violent drug offender to share a steel cage with rapists and murderers. We have the draconian laws of the 15th century, not the modern, enlightened world.

"I'm not fat. Therefore, other people who are deserve my scorn."

There is not a sustainable position to take in the 21st century. We know too much about every human is flawed in one way or another, and that only patient, compassionate caring can help people recover from their addictions, be they food, bad relationships, or chemicals.

I hope that if I ever have a personal demon to fight, others will reach out to me with open hands instead of closed fists.
